Skydiving Plane With 20 on Board Crashes in Tennessee — Here’s What We Know

A DeHavilland DH-6 Twin Otter aircraft crashed shortly after departing Tullahoma Regional Airport on Sunday, with 20 people aboard, including crew and passengers, according to city spokesperson Lyle Russell.

The crash occurred around 12:30 p.m. “There were no casualties,” Russell told People. “There are some minor injuries.”

The plane crashed near Old Shelbyville Road, about 75 miles south of Nashville. According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, three people were airlifted to local hospitals, and one was transported by ground due to more serious injuries. First responders treated others at the scene.

Russell said the crash caused no damage to airport property. Images shared by law enforcement show the wrecked aircraft resting in a grassy field, with parts of its structure visibly damaged.

As news of the incident spread, online reactions reflected a mix of concern and speculation. One netizen commented, “What is it about sky diving planes? Seem crashing all the time?” Another suggested a possible cause, “Maybe attempting an emergency landing and wing hit a tree [sic]?”

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials assisting in the inquiry.
