The footage, taken during the May 22 game between the Indiana Fever and Atlanta Dream, showed the 10-time WNBA All-Star appearing to say something after fouling out. Online users speculated the comment was directed at Caitlin Clark.

After the game, I asked Brittney Griner if it was possible that she said “f***ing white girl” after fouling out against the Indiana Fever, even though she couldn’t remember what she said.

“I know it wasn’t that because I wouldn’t use that type of language,” she said. pic.twitter.com/ny9pXCzpCt

Brittney Griner brushes off reporter’s question about controversial game moment

On Sunday, reporter Dan Zaksheske asked Brittney Griner about the moment after the game, pressing her on whether she recalled what she said.

“I asked Brittney Griner what she said after fouling out against the Indiana Fever three weeks ago (since no one else has asked since then), and she said she ‘can’t remember,’” wrote Dan Zaksheske in a post with a video of the question.

Zaksheske noted he offered to show her the viral video to refresh her memory, but Griner responded that it “wouldn’t help.”

Brittney Griner denies using racial slur against Caitlin Clark

Though Brittney Griner admitted she didn’t clearly remember the moment, she strongly denied using the phrase being circulated online.

Zaksheske pressed her again after the game, asking “if it was possible that she said ‘f*****g White girl’ after fouling out against the Indiana Fever, even though she couldn’t remember what she said.”

“I remember fouling out, being mad,” she said in the video shared by Zaksheske. “I remember fouling out on, I believe it was (Natasha) Howard driving to the basket. They said I put my hand in but hey…”

When asked again about the specific alleged phrase, Griner firmly responded, “I would never say that,” according to Outkick.

“There’s no place for that in our league, and [I] wouldn’t say that. I was mad about a call,” she asserted.

Griner then added, “I know it wasn’t that because I wouldn’t use that type of language,” after Zaksheske asked her to clarify how she could deny it despite saying she didn’t remember the exact words.
