According to Page Six, Anne Burrell’s husband, Stuart Claxton, called 911 after discovering her lifeless body in their Brooklyn home.
Emergency dispatchers reportedly instructed Claxton to perform CPR, though it remains unclear if those efforts were carried out, as Burrell was already cold to the touch when he found her.
A spokesperson for the New York Fire Department confirmed that the 911 caller indicated Burrell had gone into “cardiac arrest” and was “DOA” (dead on arrival).
As the investigation continues, no official cause of death has been released. Burrell’s family honored her memory in a heartfelt statement, remembering the ‘Worst Cooks in America’ host as a “beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend,” adding, “Her smile lit up every room she entered.”

Just hours before her tragic death, famed chef Anne Burrell was enjoying what appeared to be a joyful and celebratory night.
According to Page Six, Burrell spent the evening of Sunday, June 16, performing in an improv show at The Second City New York in Brooklyn, the final showcase of a course she had been taking, as documented on her Instagram.
“Everyone said she was so great last night and so happy,” a source told PEOPLE. Another attendee at the event echoed the sentiment, saying Burrell was in “great spirits last night during and after the improv show. Typical fun, outgoing Anne, having a blast.”
Her sudden death the next morning has left friends and fans “shocked and confused,” as she had seemed perfectly fine when the night ended.
Just a week earlier, on June 9, Burrell posted on Instagram about how much she was enjoying the improv classes, writing that she was “having an ABSOLUTE blast.”
She promoted the June 16 finale show with enthusiasm, sharing selfies at the venue and snapshots with her classmates.
Burrell first announced she was taking the “Improv for Actors” course on March 19, writing, “Can I just say it is SO much fun and I am learning so SO much!!! It really helps me get out of my shell… as if I needed that!! #ilovewhatido #luckygirl.”
